CTAE Students Earn GeorgiaBest Certification
GeorgiaBEST certification serves as validation to employers that students have displayed strong work habits that will foster success in higher education and in the workplace. This program helps our young people gain an understanding of the lifelong process of determining self and career identity.
Students work on employability soft skills such as interviewing and customer relations. They develop resumes, write cover letters and thank you letters. They research careers and set career goals. This year, 252 CTAE students earned the GeorgiaBEST certification through the Georgia Department of Labor. |
NFHS Students Earn Pathway Certification
Each year students who successful complete a CTAE pathway, take a national, industry-recognized credentialing exam, state licensure exam, national occupational assessment, or state-developed occupational assessment. The assessments determine the knowledge, skill and understanding gained by the students in the career pathway. The assessments also provide pathway completer's the opportunity to earn certification or certificates that are recognized throughout business and industry in the state and nation while still in high school.

Bryan Garcia Named the Greater Atlanta Metropolitan Navy League Cadet of the Year
The Navy League of the United States Atlanta Metropolitan Council holds an annual award dinner to recognize the accomplishments of local Navy and Marine Corps JROTC cadets and cadets from the Sea Cadet program. Over 45 JROTC units and Sea Cadet programs participate in this event. Each of these programs is invited to select their most impressive cadet to compete for individual honors.
Following an intense interview process by retired Navy commissioned officers, Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Bryan Garcia of North Forsyth High School was named the Greater Atlanta Metropolitan Navy League Cadet of the Year. |
NFHS Students Qualify as Gold Medalists on National Spanish Examination

The Georgia Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese recognizes students who place 1st – 6th in the state on the exam and award these students with a scholarship. Juan Carlos Cifuentes scored the 2nd highest score in the state, and Emily Stocksdale scored the 4th highest score in the state. Both freshmen students will receive a $50 scholarship as a result of their achievement. |

North Forsyth MCJROTC Program Earns National Fitness Honors
Each school year, Marine Corps JROTC units participate in the Marine Corps League sponsored Youth Fitness Test. This test consists of a series of exercises—push-ups, pull-ups, crunches, standing broad jumps, and a 300-yard shuttle run. Participants are rated according to the number of repetitions of each exercise and their time on the shuttle run.
This year, the cadets of the North Forsyth High School MCJROTC program surpassed their previous scores in this national fitness test. The male team scores ranked them first in the nation, and the female team was ranked fourth nationally. Three of the male team members, Matt Borders, Elijah Salemi, and Alex Peacock had the three highest individual scores, and Brittany Smith had the highest female score in the Southeast region. The male team has earned the right to advance to the National Youth Fitness Test Competition in San Diego. |
NFHS Students Earn State FFA Degrees
Congratulations to Taylor Phillips, Jacob McPherson, and Emma Shadburn who each earned their State FFA degrees, which were presented to them at the 88th annual Georgia FFA convention in Macon, Georgia on Saturday, April 30th. These degrees are earned through their Supervised Agricultural Experience projects, participating in career development events, and through their leadership roles and activities within their local FFA chapters.

Raider Bass Fishing Wins Team Competition
Congratulations to the Raider Bass Fishing Team on their successes at this past Sunday’s Forsyth County Bass Fishing Championship on Lake Lanier. Twenty-seven boats from four high schools competed.
Logan Samples and Ben Currie won the Individual Championship with 14 pounds and 8 ounces. Glen Worley and Luke Gravitt finished 2nd with 14 pounds and 4 ounces. Ben Bales and Kyle Martin finished 4th with 12 pounds 4.3 ounces. Kyle Martin caught the Big Bass of the tournament with a 4 pound 2 ounce fish. The Raiders also won the Team Competition! |
Lady Raider Lacrosse Team Hosts Pink Out Game
In their April 13th game against North Cobb, the Varsity and JV Lady Raiders Lacrosse hosted a Pink Out game in support of cancer research. The Lady Raiders donated $1600 to Blue Skies Ministries. Blue Skies supports families who have children with cancer by providing assistance with meals and childcare, and they offer beach vacations to provide a break from the everyday stress of caring for a child with cancer.

Raider Baseball Advances to State Playoffs
The Raider Baseball team has advanced to the State Playoffs! The Raiders will be hosting the first round of playoffs in a doubleheader versus North Gwinnett High School on Friday, April 29th, with the first game starting at 5:00 PM. If necessary, the two teams will meet Saturday, April 30th, at 12:00 Noon, also at North Forsyth, for a decisive Game Three. Tickets for the Friday games are $10 (only GHSA passes permitted), and Saturday’s game is $7. Come out and support your Raiders baseball team as the road to the state championship starts here at NFHS!

Raider Robotics Places at VEX Worlds Robotics Championship
The 3536M Raider Robotics Team, comprised of George Michael Huttick, Nick Fornek, and Noah Davis, recently competed at the VEX Worlds Robotics Championship in Louisville, KY. In the high school division, 500 teams from 31 different countries were competing. The Raiders placed 24th in game play and 65th in drivers/programming skills. They were also selected by judges to interview for the Excellence Award.

Raider Golf Team Advances to State Sectionals
It has been an exciting season for the Raider Golf Team. The Raiders advanced to State Sectionals for the first time in school history. The combined score of 294 at the Region Tournament was the lowest score in school history. Team members Include Bo Barnes, Jackson Boone, Nick Lasseter, Daniel Mathis, Drew Nizialek, Griffin Orzech, and Matthew Workman.

Diana Hyrbu and Taylor Childers both earned Honorable Mentions for their pieces respectively titled Study in Sepia and Izzybelle. Senior Jordan Madsen was awarded Best in Show in the 3D category for her piece, Lady Buddha. Jordan will receive a $1000 prize for her achievement.

World Language Day
NFHS students who currently take French, German, Russian and Spanish languages, along with Mrs. Santiago, Mrs. Surin, and Mrs. Everson, attended World Language Day at Georgia State University on Friday, April 15th. They had the opportunity to hear the keynote speaker, Mr. Abdel-Kader, Deputy Assistant Secretary from the U.S. Department of Education, share the importance of studying languages and being prepared to compete globally.

Diane Bounphasaysonh Awarded DECA Scholarship
Congratulations to North Forsyth High School Senior Diane Bounphasaysonh. Diane has been awarded a $750 scholarship by the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation to sponsor her attendance at the DECA International Career Development Conference, held April 23-26 in Nashville. Diane is the only students in Georgia to receive this scholarship!

Raider Robotics Places at US Open Robotics Championship
Congratulations to Raider Robotics on their recent successes at the US Open Robotics Championship!
The 3536B team, comprised of Ben Kilpatrick, Ryan Oswalt, and Noah Davis, won the 1st place Mega Alliance. They were challenged to repurpose their robot for a game where they had to hit 46 cups at three varying heights and varying tower forms. The 3536M team, comprised of George Michael Huttick and Nick Fornek, earned the 4th place Seed Alliance and made it to the top 8 teams of the competition. The US Open Robotics Championship was held April 6-9 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and The Raider Robotics team was the only high school from Georgia competing this year. |
Morgan Champion and Ashley Lomax Nominated for Carson Scholars Fund Scholarship
Congratulations to Morgan Champion and Ashley Lomax who were each nominated for the Carson Scholars Fund Scholarship on behalf of Dr. and Mrs. Ben Carson! Morgan has also qualified as a 2016 Recognized Carson Scholar and will be honored at the Carson Scholars Fund Annual Awards Banquet at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga.

Congratulations to North Forsyth High School Senior Emily Nizialek who has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with the President’s Volunteer Service Award. This award, which recognizes Americans who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was granted by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program on behalf of President Barack Obama. As a recipient of this award, Emily demonstrates that young people across America are making remarkable contributions to the health and vitality of their communities.

North Forsyth High School Thespian Troupe 5368 has been named a Gold Level Honor Troupe by the Georgia Thespian Society. This honor is based on the four pillars of the Georgia Thespian Society: Production, Community Service, Participation, and Theatre Outreach.

NFHS Students Selected to Attend Georgia Governor’s Honors Program
The following students have been selected to attend the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) this summer at Valdosta State University. We are excited about this opportunity for our students and that North will be represented at GHP this year.
Brody Grant, Voice Janie Millwood, Social Studies Katherine Schumacher, Communicative Arts Makenzie Sullivan, Mathematics GHP is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students. It offers instruction which is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders. |
Russian Youth Baseball Team Visits NFHS
North Forsyth High School was recently visited by a youth baseball team from Russia. During their visit, they participated in Drama, Choir, Robotics, Horticulture, Food for Life, Broadcasting, and ROTC classes, while interacting in Russian and English languages. They especially enjoyed participating in a clinic hosted by our Raider Baseball team.
2016 Laws of Life Essay Contest Winners Announced
We are pleased to announce our 2016 Georgia Laws of Life Essay Contest winners!
The following North Forsyth High School students were chosen as the winners for their grade level and will receive a monetary prize: freshman Anna Goellner, sophomore Mackenzie Clanton, junior Jack Dalmolin, and senior Chandler Kelley (overall school winner). We are also very excited to announce that of the 42,000 essays submitted, senior Chandler Kelley is the STATE WINNER of the contest. Chandler will be receiving $1000. The Laws of Life Essay Contest challenges students to reflect upon core values such as perseverance, generosity, courage and compassion, and it rewards those students who are willing to take a stand for their beliefs. |

Eden Dunford Recognized as Georgia Scholar
We are pleased to announce that North Forsyth High School Senior Eden Dunford has been recognized as a 2016 Georgia Scholar by the Georgia Department of Education.
Through the Georgia Scholar program, the Department identifies and honors high school seniors who have achieved excellence in school and community life. Georgia Scholar students have embraced academic rigor, have successfully participated in interscholastic events at their schools and in their communities, and have assumed active leadership roles in their schools. Eden is one of 151 graduating seniors from schools across Georgia selected for this recognition. Each Georgia Scholar receives a seal for his or her diploma. |
Dr. Donna Governor Recognized by Upper Etowah River Alliance
Congratulations to North Forsyth High School science teacher Dr. Donna Governor! Dr. Governor has been recognized as the 2015-2016 Educator of the Year by the Upper Etowah River Alliance. Dr. Governor is a member of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), holding active board positions, and she will be presenting at the NSTA conference next week in Nashville. She also serves at the Southeastern Regional Director for the National Earth Science Teachers Association.

NFHS Marine Corps JROTC Excels in Inspection
On Thursday, March 17th, the cadets of the North Forsyth High School Marine Corps JROTC program underwent a tri-annual inspection by officials from the Office of the USMC Inspector General.
The cadets were awarded the rating of “Exceeds Expectations,” the highest rating a unit can earn. According to Colonel Charles Delair, the senior inspector, only three MCJROTC units in the Southeast achieved this ranking this year.
Major Mac Kelly (USMC, Ret.), Senior Marine Instructor, said, “These cadets have done a particularly outstanding job this year. They have balanced rigorous academic classes, part-time jobs, and school extracurricular activities to make their program one of the best in the nation. All the instructors, MGySgt Merritt, GySgt Snook, and I are extremely proud of these cadets and their accomplishments.”

Morgan Champion Wins Zone-Level Optimist International Oratorical Contest
We are pleased to announce that North Forsyth High School Sophomore Morgan Champion continues to advance in the Optimist Oratorical Contests. On Saturday, March 19th, Morgan won the zone-level competition. The judges commended her on the emotion of her speech and agreed that it set her apart from other orators. Morgan will now move on to the district level competition, which will be held Saturday, April 16th.

NFHS Chorus Performs at Disney
On March 19th, the NFHS Chorus gave an outstanding performance and experienced educational clinics as part of Festival Disney at Saratoga Springs Performance Hall. Both choirs received Superior ratings, and the Chamber Choir placed 3rd overall in a field of over 20 choirs.
Radhika Raja Named Runner-Up for National Center for Women in Information Technology Award
Congratulations to North Forsyth High School Junior Radhika Raja who was recognized as the 2016 Georgia Affiliate runner-up of the National Center for Women in Information Technology (NCWIT) Award for Aspirations in Computing.
Radhika received this award for her outstanding work and commitment in Computer Science and Engineering and was recognized at an awards banquet at Georgia Tech earlier this month. |
Raider Science Ambassadors Partner with SCES
The Raider Science Ambassadors recently partnered with students at Silver City Elementary to engage in some science and engineering fun! The Science Ambassadors are a group of 130 high school students who take Family Science Events to local elementary schools. The club is sponsored by Dr. Donna Governor and Ms. Charlotte Stevens. For the second year in a row, the group has visited six local elementary schools. Students who participate in this club volunteer their time and share a love of science with hundreds of families.

NFHS Students Place at State Literary Competition
Congratulations to the North Forsyth High School students who placed at the GHSA State Literary competition on Saturday, March 12th. Junior Brody Grant was named State Champion in the category of Boys Solo. The Boys Quartet, comprised of Jason Gardner, Brody Grant, Tate Rogers, and Dellan Short, placed third in the State.
Josh Owens Named High School Counselor of the Year
North Forsyth High School Counselor Josh Owens has been named High School Counselor of the Year for Forsyth County Schools!
Mr. Owens was instrumental in leading the way for the North Forsyth High School Counseling Department in achieving RAMP recognition in 2014. He is heavily involved in the Georgia School Counseling Association (GSCA), and he is currently serving on the GSCA Leadership team. Congratulations, Josh. FBLA Students Qualify for National Conference

Owen Wickman Earns National Security Language Initiative for Youth Scholarship
Congratulations to North Forsyth High School Junior Owen Wickman! Owen has earned a scholarship from The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) to travel abroad and continue studying Russian language in Moldova for six weeks this summer.
NSLI-Y is part of a U.S. government initiative that prepares American citizens to be leaders in a global world and aims to provide opportunities to American youth that will spark a lifetime interest in language learning. |

Raider Robotics Qualifies for VEX Worlds Competition
Congratulations to the Raider Robotics Team. The team’s 3536M robot, designed by Nick Fornek and George Michael Huttick, won the Design Award at the Georgia State VEX Championship on February 26th. The Design Award is presented to a team that demonstrates an organized and professional approach to the design process, project management, time management, and team organization.

NFHS Named Advanced Placement Honor School
Georgia State School Superintendent Richard Woods recently announced the Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools for 2015 - 2016. AP Honor Schools are selected based upon the number of students who take AP exams as well as the scores students earn on AP exams. We are proud to announce that North Forsyth High School received the following recognitions for the spring 2015 test administration:
AP Merit School (AP Merit Schools are schools with at least 20 percent of the student population taking AP exams and at least 50 percent of all AP exams earning scores of 3 or higher.) AP Stem School (AP STEM Schools are schools with students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses: AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics B, AP Physics C, AP Computer Science.) Raider Drill Team Places 3rd at Georgia State All Service Drill Meet
On Saturday, February 26th, the North Forsyth High School Marine JROTC Drill Team participated in the Georgia State All Service Drill Meet at the Georgia Military College in Milledgeville. Despite intense competition from the other service affiliated JROTC units, the Raider Drill Team placed third overall and was the highest ranked Marine JROTC Team. As Georgia has over 250 JROTC units statewide, this is a noteworthy accomplishment.

Advanced Composition Classes: Cupcake War...of the Worlds
On Friday, February 26th, Ms. Hollis’s Advanced Composition classes hosted “Cupcake War…of the Worlds!” The activity corresponded with their study of the novel War of the Worlds. Students decorated cupcakes based on an alien or object described in the novel and created a corresponding visual with textual evidence of their creation. Mr. Cheney and Ms. Oliver judged the event.

FCCLA Day at the Capitol
The North Forsyth High School chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) joined over 2,500 members at the Georgia State Capitol for FCCLA Week and FCCLA Day on February 10th.
The FCCLA Day at the Capitol is designed to stress the importance of being young leaders in families, careers and, communities. The purpose was to meet with Georgia representatives and senators about Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, and FCCLA. Students from North Forsyth had the opportunity to meet with their senator and meet the Governor as well as tour the Capitol and sit in on a legislative session.

NFHS Students Place at Region Literary Competition
Congratulations to several North Forsyth High School students who placed at the Region Literary competition. Region Literary is comprised of individual and group competitions in categories pertaining to Fine Arts and English. These include dramatic interpretation, essay composition, extemporaneous speaking, and solo, trio and quartet choral performances.

Dr. Bearden Visits Fine Arts Classes
On Monday, February 22nd, FCSS Superintendent, Dr. Jeffrey Bearden visited North Forsyth High School and toured many of our Fine Arts classrooms. Dr. Bearden visited Painting, Ceramics, Band, Chorus, Drama, and Photography classes, where he spoke with students about each program’s unique significance to their high school experience.
Coach Rusty Transue Named National Wrestling Coaches Association’s Assistant Coach of the Year
Congratulations to Coach Rusty Transue. Coach Transue has been named the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s Assistant Coach of the Year for Georgia.
Each year, the National Wrestling Coaches Association selects a Head and Assistant Coach of the year who has had a positive influence on the wrestling community by demonstrating integrity, sportsmanship, and character. This is a significant honor, and Coach Transue will be recognized for his accomplishments in a ceremony prior to the finals at the 2017 State Wrestling Championships. |

Connor Tennies Wins Optimist Club Essay Contest
North Forsyth High School Junior Connor Tennies has been selected as the winner of the Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club Essay Contest. This year’s essay topic was “Lead by Example: Reality or Fiction.” Connor’s essay, “Full Speed Ahead,” addressed how leading by example is a crucial aspect of true leadership. Now that he has won the local competition, Connor’s essay will be entered into the state-level competition.

Raider Station Recognized as Outstanding School-based Enterprise
The Raider Station School Store at North Forsyth High School has achieved Gold Level Certification this year and will be recognized at DECA’s International Career Development Conference in Nashville, Tennessee in April. The students who worked on the certification were Ty Black, Sami Durfey, Zack Eckert, Curtis Francelj, Griffin Hausler, Dalton Jennings, Andrew Lancaster, Jared Mann, Brett Nelson, James Porter, Marshall Shelby, Jordyn Triche, Nicholas Alo, Diane Bounphasaysonh, Gabe Brisuda, Riley Manning, and Amelia Wielputz, with the assistance of their advisor Ms. Lisa Cline. A special thanks goes to Gabe Brisuda and Diane Bounphasaysonh for their hard work in finalizing and submitting the final product. The Raider Station at North Forsyth High School has operated since 2006 and is to be commended for this achievement.

Corinne Thompson Wins Poetry Out Loud Competition
Congratulations to North Forsyth High School Senior Corinne Thompson who has been selected as the school winner for the Poetry Out Loud competition. North Forsyth High School held the school-level Poetry Out Loud competition, with over 200 students from NFHS competing. Corinne performed the poem “Beautiful.” She goes to the Atlanta History Center on February 20th to represent our school in the Metro Atlanta Region competition, one of three region competitions in the state.

North Forsyth MCJROTC Program Conducts Change of Command Ceremony
The Marine Corps JROTC unit at North Forsyth High School recently conducted their Winter Change of Command ceremony. Cadet Alex Peacock was relieved as the Cadet Battalion Commanding Officer by Cadet Haley Hubbard. Under Peacock’s leadership, the North Forsyth Battalion was selected as the top Marine Corps JROTC unit in the Southeast and named as a National Naval Honor School.
During the ceremony, Cadet Peacock was promoted to the rank of Cadet Colonel, and Cadet Hubbard was promoted to Cadet Lieutenant Colonel.

Matthew McClelland Appointed to U.S. Naval Academy
Congratulations to North Forsyth Senior Matthew McClelland. Matthew has been accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He was nominated by 9th District U.S. Representative Doug Collins of Gainesville to attend the military service academy. The appointment required an intensive application and interview process, during which students throughout the country compete for prized spots in the freshman class. Upon graduation from the Academy, Matthew will receive a commission as an officer in the United States Navy. Construction Milestone: Topping Out of New Gymnasium
On Friday, January 8th, North Forsyth High School and Barton Malow Construction celebrated the “Topping Out” of our new Competition Gymnasium. This celebration marks the milestone when the building has reached its maximum height.
As part of this ceremony, a beam was installed, signed by the NFHS faculty and staff.
Additionally, Barton Malow presented North Forsyth High School with a $10,000 donation to aid in the outfitting of our new facilities. Raider Wrestling Team Named Region Champs
Congratulations to the Raider Wrestling team for winning the Region Duals Championship! On Saturday, January 9th, they defeated Centennial 72-12, then beat West 53-6 in the semifinals. They finished up with a grueling 36-28 win over Lambert. This is the program’s 5th consecutive year as region champs.

Caroline Duckworth Awarded Presidential Scholarship by Georgia College and State University
Congratulations to North Forsyth Senior Caroline Duckworth! She has been awarded the Presidential Scholarship from Georgia College and State University. Dayana Aparicio from GCSU visited to present the scholarship to Caroline. The Presidential Scholarship is one of the most prestigious offered by the University and provides a 4-year renewable award of $4,000, a Study Abroad stipend, and Admission to the Honors Program. Caroline was one of only four Presidential Scholars selected by the University from a very competitive nationwide applicant pool.
Alexandria Bagwell Awarded Scholarship by National Society of High School Scholars
Congratulations to North Forsyth Senior Alexandria Bagwell! She has been awarded a $1000 scholarship from The National Society of High School Scholars, an international organization founded in 2002 by Claus Nobel. Alexandria was one of eight high school and college students who were presented with a scholarship and was selected based on her essay submission.

Marketing Classes Develop Designs for Keller Williams
The third level marketing classes designed the new moving truck wrap for Mickey Hyams Keller Williams moving van. Each group presented their design. Mr. Hyams then picked two groups to help him move forward with rewrapping his truck. The design process will begin after the first of the year with an unveiling of the new van later this spring. Mr. Hyams donated $1000 to NFHS DECA for use in our chapter. Funds will be used this year to offset competition costs for DECA students.

Over the Thanksgiving Holiday, the Raider Chorus traveled to New York City and performed at Carnegie Hall.
NFHS Beta Club Named National Beta School of Distinction
The North Forsyth High School chapter of the National Beta Club has achieved National Beta School of Distinction status. This national award recognizes the NFHS Beta Club’s commitment to academic excellence and illustrates their dedication to preparing students for college and career readiness.
The Beta Club is committed to promoting high academic achievement, rewarding worthy character, and improving student leadership skills. The NFHS Beta Club is comprised of over 250 members who are selected based on a 3.5 GPA and an application process.

Marketing Classes Develop Designs for The Morrow Foundation
The third level marketing classes assisted in marketing the BYOT event held earlier this fall at NFHS. Chase Chapman brought in the most in sponsorships and received $100 and a summer pass to Lake Lanier Islands. The Morrow Foundation also donated $500 to NFHS DECA. This money is being used to offset competition costs for DECA students who worked the Bubble Soccer event.

Drama Students Place 1st in "Song of Hope" Contest
Congratulations to the North Forsyth High School Drama Department. Their music video, “Hope,” was selected as the winner for the “Song of Hope” video contest. The “Song of Hope” contest is sponsored by the Georgia Lottery, in conjunction with the Arts Bridge Foundation and the 2015 Schuler Hensley Awards.
“Hope” was created by North Forsyth High School students Jace Haney, Maddison McDearmont, Brody Grant, Adamo Giraldo , and Levi Touchberry. Jace Haney crafted the lyrics, reflecting on his love of theater and the importance of following one’s dream. The NFHS Drama Department has been awarded a $500 prize to further support theater education at NFHS.

Trevor Binning Awarded Prize for 1st Place Architecture Design
Congratulations to Trevor Binning who won 1st Place for Architecture Design at the 2015 TSA Tech Day at the Georgia State Fair. Trevor created a garage and workshop using the 2015 Architecture Design Criteria provided by the Technology Student Association (TSA). He was awarded a $100 prize for his design.
2015 World Language Expo
The second annual World Language Expo was hosted at Lambert High School on December 7th. The Expo was a huge success, and students from all over the county participated in various categories that included reciting poetry, acting in skits, impromptu conversations, and singing songs in French and Spanish. It was a great opportunity for students to collaborate amongst all Forsyth County Schools and to demonstrate their skills different languages.

Nina Carter Selected to Receive United States Army Cadet Command Scholarship
Congratulations to North Forsyth High School Senior Nina Carter. Nina has been selected by the United States Army Cadet Command to receive a four year college scholarship. She will be offered a choice of attending the University of Georgia, the University of North Georgia, or the University of Minnesota. Following graduation, she will be commissioned into the Army as a second lieutenant and will serve for four years of active duty.
In her four years at NFHS, Nina has maintained a 4.0 grade point average, has taken two foreign languages, Advanced Placement classes, and has participated in three varsity sports. She is the current North Forsyth Senior Class Vice President, the football Homecoming Queen, and one of the ranking officers in the school’s Marine Corps JROTC program.

Seven NFHS Students Selected for All State Chorus
North Forsyth High School recently had seven students selected as members of the 2016 All State Chorus! Josh Bearden, Mackenzie Day, Brody Grant, Haley Hubbard, Matthew Morgan, Katie Schumacher, and Kendall Sosebee have been selected to represent NFHS. All State Chorus is an outstanding honor and is comprised of the best singers in the state, selected through a rigorous audition process.
A special congratulations goes to Haley Hubbard. She has been selected for All State Chorus all 6 years that she has been eligible! Less than 1% of all the students who auditioned their 7th grade year will be selected all 6 years. This is a great honor!

National Honor Society Mentors NFMS Students
On Thursday, November 19th, the NFHS National Honor Society visited North Forsyth Middle to mentor some of our future Raiders. The students worked on arts and crafts, ate some yummy treats, and engaged in some discussions with the older kids about high school life and their upcoming Thanksgiving plans. It was a great time had by all.

On Monday, November 16th, FCSS Superintendent, Dr. Jeffrey Bearden visited North Forsyth High School and toured many of our CTAE classrooms. CTAE Department Chair, Mrs. Anderson-Rush, and two FBLA student officers led the tour. Dr. Bearden visited JROTC, Engineering, Nutrition, Marketing, and Video Broadcasting classes, where student ambassadors articulated each program’s purpose and highlighted their strengths and achievements.

Marine Corps Birthday and Veterans Day Ceremony
On Tuesday, November 10th, our Marine Corps JROTC program hosted their annual Marine Corps Birthday and Veterans Day ceremony. As part of the ceremony, local veterans were recognized, and North Forsyth's MCJROTC unit was presented with the Marine Corps Reserve Outstanding Unit Award in recognition of the cadets being named the best unit in the Southeast. Raider Band Performs at CMES Veterans Day Ceremony
On Wednesday, November 11th, the NFHS Wind Ensemble had the honor of performing at Coal Mountain Elementary Schools’ Veterans Day Ceremony. The group did a wonderful job and enjoyed being part of an event that honors so many veterans each year.
NFHS Principal for a Day: Ms. Tracy Ann Moore
On Thursday, November 5th, we welcomed Ms. Tracy Ann Moore as our Principal for a Day. The Principal for a Day program is coordinated in partnership with the Cumming- Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce. Participation in the program is open to Chamber Board members and their businesses, and participants spend one day working alongside a Forsyth County Schools principal.
Ms. Moore is a founder of Patterson/Moore Attorneys and Mediators, and she has practiced exclusively in the area of family law in the North Georgia area since 2002.
We would like to thank Ms. Moore for taking the time to spend the day with our students and explore the programs offered at North Forsyth High School.

Construction Update: Beam Signing
On Tuesday, November 10th, our 2016 Senior Class and the Raider Staff signed the last beam, which will be placed in the new main entrance of the school. Thank you to Commissioner Cindy J. Mills who joined us for the signing. We appreciate Barton Malow’s assistance with this opportunity in commemorating the newest phase of North Forsyth High School’s growth.
Competition Cheerleading Headed to State Finals!
Congratulations to the Varsity Co-Ed Competition Cheerleading team that placed 5th out of 34 teams at Sectionals in Columbus, Georgia on November 7th. This qualifies the team to return to Columbus to compete in the State Finals!

Congratulations to North Forsyth High School Seniors Chad Bureau and Morgan Grindle. Chad and Morgan have been selected as North Forsyth’s 2015-2016 Wendy's High School Heisman Athletes. The Wendy’s Heisman Award recognizes high school seniors who excel in learning, performing, and leading in the classroom, on the field, and in the community.

Competition Cheer Heads to GHSA Sectionals
On October 31st, the Raider Competition Cheer Team competed at Chestatee High School for their final competition of the regular season. They placed 2nd behind Grayson High School. The team leaves for Columbus, GA on Friday, November 6th to participate in the GHSA Sectionals Competition. They will compete against 34 teams, and they hope to place in the top 16 to qualify for the State Finals on November 13th!

Alex Rivera Selected as PEO Scholarship Nominee
Congratulations to North Forsyth Senior Alex Rivera! She has been selected as the North Forsyth nominee for the Philanthropic Educational Organization scholarship competition. Alex was selected by NFHS staff for her community involvement, extracurricular activities, and special achievements. She will go through an interview process and submit an essay for the chance to earn a $1000 scholarship.

Wind Ensemble Presents Fall Concert
Counselors Host Financial Aid Night
On October 27th, the NFHS Counseling Department hosted Financial Aid Night. There were over 160 parents and students in attendance. A representative from the Georgia Student Finance Commission presented information about obtaining the HOPE scholarship, as well as applying for other grants and/or loans. . Also, Mr. Scott Kessler, a Certified Financial Planner, discussed how to plan financially to “fill in the gaps” for funding a college or technical school education.

Haley Hubbard Recognized by DAR Good Citizens Program
Congratulations to North Forsyth Senior Haley Hubbard! She has been named the NFHS nominee for the DAR Good Citizens Program. Haley was selected by staff at NFHS as an outstanding student who demonstrates the qualities of a good citizen. She will receive an honorarium as a result of being selected, and she will have the opportunity to participate in a scholarship competition at the local, state, and national level with an award of as much as $5000.

The Raider Robotics Team has had a great fall season. On October 17th, they competed in the VEXIQ Competition at South Forsyth Middle School, and on October 24th, they participated in the BEST (Boosting Engineering Science Technology) Robotics Competition. Their Engineering Notebook is a clear, complete document of the team’s design process, and they were able to explain their design and strategy throughout the season. The design award gives 3536M a spot at GA VEX State Championships.

Trevor Binning won 1st Place for Architecture Design at the 2015 TSA Tech Day at the GA State Fair. Trevor created a garage using the 2015 Architecture Design Criteria provided by the Technology Student Association (TSA).
NFHS Engineering students were given the TSA Technology Day challenge of designing the 2015-2016 TSA T-Shirt. Designers Brady Waltzer, Cory York, Eddy Manriquez, and Troy Lewis placed seventh.
As part of the design challenges, students Katelyn Jordan and Tasfia Hussain placed third with their Mouse Trap Car, and Joey Smith placed seventh with his Rube Goldberg.

Special Olympics Golf Tournament
Lady Raiders Softball Team Makes State Playoffs!
Congratulations to the Lady Raider Softball Team for finishing 3rd in Region 6AAAAAA this season and qualifying for the State Tournament. The Lady Raiders finished the regular season with a 20-7 record and will travel to Collins Hill for the 1st round of the State Playoffs on Wednesday, October 14th.

Homecoming Spirit Week
Homecoming Spirit Week was a great success. NFHS had an amazing turnout from both students and faculty with our fun spirit week themes. By far, Character Day turned out to be the most popular day followed by America Day and Rowdy Raider Day!
At Friday night’s game, the Homecoming Court was announced with the following students being crowned:

11th – Gracie Hamby
12th King and Queen – Nina Carter and Jacob Bailey
Saturday night’s Homecoming Dance showed us that the fair and the rain couldn’t stop our Raider Spirit as almost 400 students showed up to dance the night away during a Night on the Nile! Thank you to our teachers for chaperoning, DECA for running the school store, and Student Council for hosting!

National Merit Scholarship Program
Congratulations to NFHS Seniors Emily Nizialek and Christopher Snodgrass for being recognized as Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended Students are recognized for their exceptional academic achievement demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the 2014 PSAT. Emily and Christopher represent the top 5% of the 1.5 million students who took the PSAT.

Raider Cross Country
The North Forsyth Cross Country team has made tremendous strides this season with fantastic showings at several events thus far. At the recent Jefferson Mainstreet Meet, the boys and girls both finished 3rd with Freshman Josh Shunk and Senior Nina Carter both breaking into the top 10. At the Chestatee War Eagle Invitational, the boys had a respectable finish of 8th out of 19 teams, and the girls excelled finishing 4th out of 15 teams. For the year, the fastest times belong to Freshman Josh Shunk and Senior Alex Peacock for the boys and Senior Nina Carter and Freshman Kylee Howling for the girls. The teams are looking to peak at the right time as they head into region competition.
NFHS Journalism Recognized by Georgia Scholastic Press Association
Congratulations to the NFHS Journalism program! Last year’s literary magazine, Oracle, received a Superior award from the Georgia Scholastic Press Association and a First Class Rating with 1 mark of distinction in Writing and Editing from the National Scholastic Press Association. Oracle also received First Place with Special Merit from the American Scholastic Press Association. Additionally, our online newspaper, the Raider Wire, was awarded International Second Place Award – Exceptional from Quill and Scroll and Second Class Rating with 2 marks of Distinction Interactivity/Community and Design/Navigation from the National Scholastic Press Association.

Congratulations to Teacher of the Year Jay Glymph!
Congratulations to our 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year, Mr. Jay Glymph. Mr. Glymph was voted the winner by his peers among a group of top tier educators.
Jay has taught social studies courses for fifteen years at North and has a total of sixteen years experience as an educator. Within that time frame, he has demonstrated leadership as the lead teacher for US History and its content data team. He has also coached football and soccer as well as sponsored the academic bowl, finance club, and political awareness club. Past senior superlative nominations for "Mr. NFHS" and "Best Sense of Humor" are a testimony to the positive relationships he has built with students over the years. |
Congratulations to Coach Henderson on His 100th Coaching Win
Congratulations to Coach Bud Henderson on his 100th coaching win at North. On Tuesday, October 6th, the Lady Raiders Softball team defeated Centennial HS 12-0. During his eleven years at North, Coach Henderson has coached softball, football, baseball, track, and golf. Coach Henderson states, “I credit every win to the fantastic group of students I have coached over the years.”

Ten NFHS Technology Student Association (TSA) members attended the Chapter Officer Retreat for Excellence (CORE) September 18-20, 2015. North Forsyth won the 100% Chapter award by participating in all the leadership classes, team building events, and preparing the chapter’s Program Of Work during the weekend.

Boys and Girls State Appreciation Night
The American Legion Post 307 hosted a “Boys and Girls State Appreciation Night” on September 14th. NFHS was well represented! Pictured from L to R: Haley Hubbard, Matthew McClelland, and Langley Brown. Not pictured: Riley Manning. These current seniors were nominated by their teachers as candidates for Boys/Girls State last spring and were all accepted for the program. They did a tremendous job and had the unique opportunity to learn about how our governmental system works by spending a week at Riverside Military Academy this past summer.

Panera Study Sessions with Mr. Major
On Tuesday September 15th, Mr. Major held one of his Panera study sessions. There were approximately 45 students in attendance throughout the night, a little over half of the students enrolled in his AP Economics course. These sessions are designed to supplement the classroom experience and are led by both Mr. Major and by the students in a question and answer form. His goal is that students see others going through the same learning process they’re experiencing and then reach out to their classmates for help, essentially developing a college study group attitude. Mr. Major typically holds a study session before his unit exams in the evening at the local Panera Bread Company.

College Probe Fair

On September 1st, 225 juniors and seniors
attended the College Probe Fair at the Lanier Tech Conference Center. There were
over 300 colleges and universities from across the nation in attendance, and students
had a chance to talk about admissions, scholarships, and student life with
local representatives.

Career Readiness with Barton Malow
On Friday, September 11th, Barton Malow Company sent an electrician, plumber, and superintendent to the math finance classes to talk about how students can pursue a career in their fields. They graciously gave up their time to inform students about what their job entails, apprenticeship programs, how to get their foot in the door, what kind of work habits and qualities employers are looking for, and so much more. This tied in perfectly to our ‘careers’ unit we are currently covering in the finance class.

FCA
Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is off and running. The club averages about 100 students and is led by 21 amazing students. They have had youth pastors share devotionals/messages from Browns Bridge Church and First Baptist Church. In October, their devotional leaders represent Cumming UMC and Mt. Tabor Baptist. They are focusing on Outreach by surprising the sports teams with popsicles after one of their games during the season.

Raider Robotics
The NFHS Robotics Team currently has two robots in the top 10 for the World Drivers Skills Challenge. George Michael Huttick, Ben Work, and Nick Fornek are in 6th place for the World Drivers Skills Challenge. Noah Davis, Ryan Oswalt, and Ben Kilpatrick are ranked in 10th place in the World Drivers Skills Challenge.

Environmental Science Explores World Biomes
|
Ms. Carter’s Environmental Science students rotated through interactive stations depicting the 7 major world biomes. At each station, students gathered observations and analyzed data, such as temperature, precipitation, and biodiversity index. This data was then applied to a dichotomous key to reveal that particular biome.

Marine Corps JROTC Program Earns Top Honors
North Forsyth MCJROTC program earned the Marine Corps Reserve Association Outstanding Unit Award, and Cadet Maj. Haley Hubbard was selected to receive the Legion of Valor Bronze Medal for superior achievement. Click here to read more about the program's accomplishments.

On Friday, August 28th, we celebrated our first home football game of the season against the Cherokee Warriors and hosted Raider Family Fun Night for our staff.
Clubapalooza 2015
On Friday, August 21st, we held Raider Clubapalooza during IF for 9th and 10th grade students. The purpose of Clubapalooza was to allow our student organizations, activities, and athletic teams, the opportunity to sign up and share organizational information with our students.
